An indulgent feast of apple pies, a seasoned boxer, and a playful approach to an empowering anthem—this forms the backdrop to Natalie Carr’s self-described ‘story of redemption’, which served as the theme for her new music video for the single “Apple Pie,” now available on all streaming services. “From the moment I wrote ‘Apple Pie’ as a stripped back song, I envisioned the video. The line “grapevine’s boxing my weight” really informed the boxing element and I’ve been waiting to incorporate boxing into a video for years,” she shares.
The video draws visual references from Million Dollar Baby and The Big Lebowski, and musical inspirations from Halsey, Kehlani, and Post Malone, artists who influenced Carr’s artistic upbringing. Funky, sensual, and tied together by a bluesy guitar riff, the single feels timeless and immediately compelling at the same time. “The song is about empowering yourself through difficult experiences and knowing what you’re capable of. When you feel low or like the odds are stacked against you, it’s a message about silently doing the work and honoring your own abilities. I definitely think the video is a more abstract concept and not super literal, but I wanted to make something playful and off-kilter,” she adds.
