An Interview With Gabby

Q: Welcome, for those unfamiliar with your music, could you tell us a little about yourself?

A: Hi, thanks so much for interviewing me for your blog. My name is Gabby, and I’m an independent singer/songwriter based in Pittsburgh, PA. My genre of choice is alternative/indie. My discography has a pretty big range, as I’ve experimented with a few different genres in the past few years that I’ve been releasing music.

Q: What inspired you to write ” thoughts at breakfast “?

A: I have ADHD, and sometimes it feels impossible to manage. I struggle often to stay focused or on topic when writing songs and it becomes difficult for me to truly sit and create. I decided to just let my thoughts roam free when writing this song to see how it would come out.

Q: How does ” thoughts at breakfast ” differ from your previous work?

A: So this is my first bedroom pop release. It’s also a lot softer than anything else I’ve ever put out, and it’s good for casual and easy listening. I feel like thoughts at breakfast is a song that anyone in any age group could listen to and enjoy.

Q: What was the recording process like for ” thoughts at breakfast “?

A: It was pretty fast, seeing as I already had the melody, the words, and the beat ready when I went into the studio to record it. I already had the vision, and I just needed my producer to work his magic on the rest.

Q: What do you hope listeners take away from ” thoughts at breakfast “?

A: The brain can be messy. Not everything has to be perfectly structured or make sense for it to be good, especially in art. Let your mind roam free!

Q: How has your hometown of Pittsburgh influenced your music?

A: I am based in Pittsburgh, but my hometown is actually 2 hours north of there. I’m from a little farm town called Franklin, and it’s a pretty historical spot. I think the biggest influence is the easy access to nature and to totally lose myself and disappearing somewhere if I need to. I draw a lot of inspiration from the thought of emptiness and being alone.

Q: Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

A: Ever since I started song writing, I would say I became heavily influenced by any and everything indie or alternative. Lana Del Rey and Halsey are huge inspirations of mine. I would also say Lorde is a heavy influence of mine as well.

Q: What’s next for you after ” thoughts at breakfast “?

A: I have a lot of songs currently in the works. I have a festival coming up in August, and I’ll be debuting some new songs there! You can expect a darker indie sound that contrasts my current EP.

Q: How do you balance your personal life with your music career?

A: There is no balance. Everyone in my life has crazy talents in their own right, so I feel like we are all just constantly totally engaged in music and art. There is no time for anything else.

Q: Can you share any details about your upcoming projects or collaborations?

A: My upcoming projects, as previously stated, will have a darker sound to them. I’ve really been able to start healing myself through my music, and there were lots of pent-up emotions that needed to come out. The brain can be a dark place, and I choose to channel my dark thoughts through song.
