An Interview With The Lunar Keys

Q: Welcome! Can you introduce yourself to our readers?

A: Thanks for having us – it’s good to be here. John (lead vocals, bass) and I (Dom/Drums) formed The Lunar Keys from the fertile ashes of a previous band ;-). In February 2020 we completed the Lunar crew when we met guitarist The Steve (in a London bar, playing Rihanna’s Umbrella on a ukulele) and keyboardist Lexi. Our mission is to have our music spread energy, hope, and a sense of empowerment, a kind of ‘C’mon….let’s do it’ feeling.

Q: How would you describe your sound to someone who’s not heard your music before?

A: We’re a rock band that passionately crafts heartfelt songs with a classic timeless feel and a contemporary twist. The comments people leave on YouTube give a good insight into what resonates with our listeners:

Q: You recently released your new single ” Life is a Dirty War ”, can you tell us what the song is about?

A: The song is a play on the expression ‘All is fair in Love & War’ and deals with being in a bad relationship whilst facing life’s daily struggles but not surrendering, likening the experience to being in a war.

I won’t live like that no more – I’ve escaped from this before – You can’t break me to the core – Life is a Dirty War.

Q: When did you realize that you wanted to become a musician?

A: I asked for my first drum kit shortly after hearing ‘Back in the USSR’ by The Beatles when I was about 4. I’m not sure I had a career in mind (or knew what that was 😉), but I was clear that I had to do this. Drumming and making music have been my lifeboat ever since.

Q: What inspires you the most to write your songs?

A: Life. We are 4 anxious types with lots of tunes and nervous energy trapped in our psyches and music is our therapy. Writing about something is cathartic. Music is the place we go to when the world gets too much and we come back stronger. Every time. We sing about the fact that things could be better on our planet, but we never do so without optimism and hope. I think of our music as uplifting and would love for it to play a part in people taking charge of their lives.

Q: Who would be your ultimate dream collaboration with, and why?

A: There are 4 artists in The Lunar Keys: JC, Lexi, Steve, and Dom. We all love collaborating with each other: Now, tomorrow, and hopefully for a long time to come. Up the Lunars!

Q: If there’s one song from your catalog that you wish everyone in the world could listen to, which one would it be?

A: ‘If It Was’ The Lunar Keys – IF IT Was (Official Video) – YouTube

Q: What do you have planned for the year ahead?

A: We’re going to pour our hearts and souls into everything we do: writing, recording, releasing, performing, and growing. And we’re going to enjoy ourselves.
