Q: Welcome! Can you introduce yourself to our readers?
A: Hey!! My name is Justine Blanchet. I’m a singer-songwriter from Montreal, Canada. I live part-time in Nashville. I have been making and releasing music since 2015.
Q: How would you describe your sound to someone who’s not heard your music before?
A: My sound is often described as original. By listening, you can tell from my voice that I was influenced by Shania Twain. A lot of my music has unique melodies and that’s what often hooks listeners and leaves them wanting more.
Q: You recently released your new single “Heart Less” – can you tell us what the song is about?
A: The song is all about listening to your head more and heartless. It paints the narcissist partner very well and empowers the singer to take action and realize his or her own worth!
Q: When did you realize that you wanted to become a musician?
A: I knew I loved music from a very early age. I began playing piano at 4 years old and classical music will forever be my first love when it comes to genres. I was about 12 years old when I decided to try out singing. It led me to try the opera genre. It wasn’t my favorite and I didn’t feel attached to it so I made the change to my second favorite genre, country music.
Q: What inspires you the most to write your songs?
A: I often draw from personal experiences or sometimes other people’s stories. I’ve got plenty to stories to pull from my own life but sometimes it’s challenging and interesting to try writing about someone else’s life story.
Q: Who would be your ultimate dream collaboration with, and why?
A: I would love to collaborate with Reba. I love her personally and sassy-ness. I think we would get along really well.
Q: If there’s one song from your catalog that you wish everyone in the world could listen to, which one would it be?
A: I would love it if everyone in the world could listen to “Get Out of the Mud”. It’s a song I wrote during the pandemic and had loads of fun bringing to life in the music video.
Q: What do you have planned for the year ahead?
A: I have an EP set to release at the beginning of the summer. I have been working on this project for the past three years and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.
